Medicine runs back generations in the Dent family, from a surgeon in the 1800s to an OB-GYN in a small South Georgia town, to a practice in Naples, Florida.

His father was an OB-GYN in a small South Georgia town, and died when Michael was ten. Michael carried that example with him into medicine.

Michael’s great-great-grandfather, Dr. John Marshall Dent, served as a surgeon during the Civil War, caring for the wounded in one of the hardest periods in American medicine.

Medicine in the Dent family reaches back to seventeenth-century Cambridge, where Dr. Dent’s ancestor Peter Dent, a physician and naturalist at Trinity College, contributed observations to John Ray’s landmark works on plants and fishes.
In 1996 he founded the Naples Women’s Center, an OB/GYN practice in Naples, Florida, and cared for patients for twenty years.
